Mark Richardson

Mark Nicholas Richardson, 47, of Bozrah, passed away unexpectedly Friday, October 10, 2014. The son of Howard W. Richardson and Catherine May (Polselli) Hibbard, he was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on June 14, 1967. He attended local schools and when he was only seventeen, with his parents consent, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He came to live in this area due to being stationed at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. He has been employed by Otis Elevator Company for the past eleven years as a mechanic. He was a member of the Norwich VFW, the Bozrah Moose Club, the Sprague Rod and Gun Club, due to his enthusiasm for bow hunting, fishing and camping throughout his life. Mark enjoyed golfing and most definitely, his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was also a diehard New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. An avid reader, he loved Stephen King’s works. Mark’s greatest joys in this world were found through spending time with his children and grandchildren. His children; Krystal and her husband Christopher Gray of Griswold, his son, Nicholas Aponte Richardson and his mother Melissa Carboni of Taftville, three granddaughters; Alexis Brophy, Jaylie and Brooklyn Gray, two sisters; Diana Barnes of Mississippi and Annmarie Richardson of Kentucky, as well as both of his parents survive him. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Cummings Gagne Funeral Home, 82 Cliff Street, Norwich. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arthur M. Frechette Jan. 17, 1927 – Oct. 15, 2014 NORWICH – Arthur M. Frechette of McKinley Ave. passed away early Wednesday morning at W.W. Backus Hospital. He was born in the Goodyear section of Putnam January 17, 1927 the son of Peter and Orena (Roberts) Frechette. A longtime Norwich resident Arthur had been a self employed dry cleaner for many years, retiring in 2006. On February 1, 1962 he was united in marriage to the former Joan Boucher who survives him. Arthur was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Besides his wife he is survived by his son Arthur J. Frechette of Norwich, six daughters; Joan Bonomi of Norwich, Jean McGran and her husband John of Cheshire, Karen Gould, Kelly Frechette, Kim Frechette, and Hope O’Bryon and her husband Donald all of Norwich; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family would also like to thank Courtney Lamotte of Norwichtown Rehab for the special care she gave Arthur. Bradley J. Capon, October 10, 1932 to October 12, 2014, East Lyme – Bradley J. Capon, 82, East Lyme, died October 12 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. Born October 10, 1932 in Stamford, the son of Joseph A. and Anna May (Bradley) Capon. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by brother, J. Anthony (Kathleen) Capon, Ledyard, and nephews Bradley (Laura) Capon, Glastonbury and Michael (Jamie) Capon and daughter Abigal, Corpus Christi, TX. Shirley A. Messier Bozrah, CT – Shirley A. Messier, 75, died Sunday, October 19, 2014 at her home in Bozrah. She was born in Bennington, VT on September 3, 1939 daughter of the late Roland and Benjamine (Berard) Lanoue. On September 7, 1959 she was united in marriage to Richard A. Messier in Woonsocket, RI. Mr. Messier survives his wife of 55 years. Shirley worked for many years as secretary/owner of Family Discount Oil Co. with her husband, Richard and son, Kenneth. Earlier in her working career Shirley was a Real Estate Agent and also worked at Cumberland Farms. In addition to her husband Shirley is survived by three sons, Richard J. Messier of Groton, Kenneth N. Messier of Sebec, ME and David E. Messier of Franklin, two brothers, George Lanoue of VT and Norman Lanoue of RI, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Attorney, James J. Dutton, Jr. Norwich – Attorney James J. Dutton, Jr., died Thursday, October 30, 2014 in Norwich, CT, a native of Norwich, CT was born on November 24, 1914, son of the late James J. Dutton and Margaret (Norris) Dutton. In 1932, He graduated from Norwich Free Academy. At the University of Notre Dame he received a B.C.S. degree. He obtained a L.L.B. degree from Hartford College of Law and J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School. He served 14 years on the Internal Revenue Service. He was Assistant Division Chief in the office of Director in charge of Estate and Gift Tax matters and as a special agent, commonly referred to as a “T” Man with the Intelligence unit. During World War II, after graduating the Officers Candidate School of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, he served with the Rank of Lieutenant on the staff of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe. Afterwards, he was a partner with former Justice, Joseph S. Longo in private Law practice. He was a founding partner of Brown, Jacobson, P.C. He was a member of the New London Bar Association, Conn. Bar Association, American Bar Association, Vice Chairman, Section of taxation, Conn. Bar Association, Last presiding Judge of City Court of Norwich for 5 ½ years. A member of U.S. District Court of Conn. And also a member of U.S. Tax Court. On June 26, 1954 he married Nancy Belle Driscoll at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Norwich and they had four sons, James, Thomas, Paul and Philip. Mr. Dutton was appointed to the Commission for Higher Education by both Governor John Dempsey and Governor Thomas Meskill. He served on the Norwich Department of Public Utilities as Secretary and Chairman. He was Secretary and President of the Board of Trustees, Norwich Free Academy. For 27 years he was a director of the Norwich Savings Society and was Senior Director when he retired. He was a Corporator of Backus Hospital and served as President of Norwich Medical Center. He was Founder and Director of Norwich Community Development Corporation and a Director of Martin House. He gave volunteer Legal Advice to Norwich Senior Citizens. He served on the Democratic Town Committee. He belonged to American Legion, Robert Fletcher, Post 4. He served on St. Jude’s Housing Corporation. He was Secretary of Norwich Rotary Club and became a Paul Harris Fellow in 1997. He was a member of Westbrook Fishing Club. He was a founding member of Pautipaug Country Club and a member of Navy League. He was the Diocesan Attorney for Bishops Flanagan, Reilly and Hines and was cited by National Diocesan Attorneys for 25 years of service. He was a Trustee of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, former President of Holy Name Society of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. He was a 3rd and 4th degree Knight of Columbus. In 1981, Pope John Paul, II appointed him as a Knight of St. Gregory. He was an original member of the Conn. Catholic Conference and was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He was honorary chairman of Red Mass in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 60 years and by one son, Attorney Philip M. Dutton and his wife Leslie, and granddaughters Sydney, Shannon and Cassandra Dutton all of Los Angeles, California. He was predeceased by three sons, James J. Dutton III, Thomas W. Dutton and Paul G. Dutton and his sister Catherine M. Dutton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Monsignor Anthony Rosaforte at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 10 A.M. meeting directly at church. Joseph Lorenzo Whitmore III Griswold, CT – Joseph Lorenzo Whitmore III, 56, of Roode Road Griswold died unexpectedly on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. He was born in Messina, New York on November 15, 1957 son of the late Joseph Lorenzo Whitmore, Jr. and Elizabeth Frances (Williams) Whitmore. On September 13, 1980 he was united to Mary Ann Norton in Norwich. Mrs. Whitmore survives her husband of 34 years. Joseph worked as a welder/steel fabricator in the area including, Thames Valley Steel, American Steel, Costal Steel, United Steel and Electric Boat Co. He dedicated his time taking care of his wife who is battling lung cancer. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, watching his favorite team the Patriots, and every western ever made. He was a friend to so many and would do anything for any person he met. In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Joseph is survived by three children Joseph Lorenzo IV, Amanda and husband Michael Cote, and Matthew and wife Lauren Whitmore, and the light of his life his grandson Aiden Cote. His two sisters Deborah Billings, Robin Salpietro, his brother Mark Whitmore, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Kathy Vaclavik. Helen E. Brown Norwich – Helen E. (Crough) Brown, 89, formerly of Will Road died Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Bride Brook Healthcare Center in Niantic. Helen was born in Ilion, New York on December 26, 1924 daughter of the late John and Helen (Murphy) Crough. Mrs. Brown graduated from the St. Joseph School of Nursing in New York. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Uncas on the Thames Hospital for many years. On February 14, 1953 she was united in marriage to Cornelius Brown at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Norwich. Mr. Brown predeceased his wife in 1975. Mrs. Brown was a communicant of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and also belonged to the Catholic Nurses Association. Helen is survived by two sons and their wives, Cornelius and Donna Brown, and John Brown and Julianne Free all of Norwich, a daughter- in- law, Sue Brown of North Stonington, and six grandchildren, Amanda, Molly, Christopher, Casey, Hanna and Cathleen. In addition to her husband, mother and father. Helen was predeceased by a son, Thomas Brown, who died November 13, 2000, a brother, Kieran Crough, three sisters, Mary Fagan, Julia Seymour and Theresa Warner. Natalie E. Fournier Uncasville – Natalie Ethel Fournier, 90, of Woodland Dr., died Saturday, November 15,2014 at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. She was born in Norwich on December 21, 1923 daughter of the late Amos Billings and Jennie (Browning) Wheeler. Natalie graduated from the Norwich Free Academy Class of 1941. In 1954 she was united in marriage to Leo Wells Fournier. Mr. Fournier died on January 23, 2007. Natalie was a devoted wife, mother and care-taker and after 22 years as a full time at-home-mother she returned to work when her children left home and worked as an administrative assistant to the Director of Department of Transportation. Natalie always made herself available to others all her life and will be deeply missed by those who were blessed to have known her. Mrs. Fournier is survived by two sons, James A. Fournier of Longview, WA and Jonathan “Jon” W. Fournier of Norwich, a daughter, Melissa A. Fournier of Stow, MA, a sister-in-law, Barbara Wheeler of Uncasville and a special caregiver, Annie Pokumensah, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Doris was united in marriage to Frederick W. Leffingwell on May 18, 1960. Mr. Leffingwell predeceased his wife of 45 years on May 2, 2006. Doris was a member of the Norwich Democratic Town Committee, Italian Women’s Club and the Red Hat Society. James F. Mileski, Jr. Uncasville – James F. Mileski, Jr., 82, of Rankin Court died Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. James was born in Norwich on September 2, 1932 son of the late James F. and Mabelle (Conklin) Mileski. Mr. Mileski was united in marriage to Bernice Rankin on April 17, 1954 at the Central Baptist Church in Norwich. Mrs. Mileski survives her husband of 60 years. He worked for 36 years at the Electric Boat Co. in Groton retiring as a Welding Supervisor in 1987. James served his country honorably in the Army during the Korean War. He was an avid Bowler at the Norwich Ten Pin and Holiday Bowl in Groton. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children James F. William J. “Bill” Murray September 26, 1927 – November 23, 2014 Former Norwich City Treasurer Bill Murray died peacefully at home on November 23. He was born in Revere, MA, to the late Daniel Murray and Mary (Doherty) Murray, the sixth of eight children. He served as a Corporal in the US Army in Trieste, Italy. He lived in the Washington DC area for a number of years before moving to Norwich. He had a long business career with McLean Trucking Company in Boston, Washington and Norwich, and was principal in W. J. Murray Real Estate. Bill was a long-time Norwich resident and Democratic party activist. He served 15 years as elected Norwich City Treasurer and retired in 2007at 79. He was elected to serve on the Norwich City Council from 1973 to 1975. His engagement with the Norwich Democratic Town Committee spanned decades. He was an active communicant at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick and served in the Holy Name Society, as an usher, and as Chairman several times of the Annual Fund Campaign. Bill served on many local non-profit boards with a special commitment to Southeastern Connecticut Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (SCADD). Bill celebrated his Irish heritage with membership in the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. His beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Kay, died in March of 2011. He is survived by his children, Valerie Fletcher (husband Mark) of Boston, MA, William “Bill” Murray of Norwich, Kathleen McCormick (husband Peter) of Auckland, New Zealand, Michelle Murray (husband, Mike Nelson) of Los Angeles, CA, and John Murray (wife Elizabeth) of Pacific Palisades, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica Grennan, Daniel Grennan, Harper Murray-Nelson, Violet Murray and Calvin Murray. He leaves his sister Margaret Corbett of Helena, Montana, Marie McDermott of Stoneham, MA, brother-in-law Thomas Lovaglio of Revere, MA, dear family friend and ‘fourth daughter’ Mary (Richard) Robert of Norwich and many nieces and nephews. His siblings James Murray, Francis Murray, Elizabeth Spezzaferri, Ellen Lovaglio and Rev. John Murray and daughter-in-law Barbara Korelkiewicz, predeceased him. Theresa Ann Iannaci Bozrah – Theresa Ann (Perkins) Iannaci, 61, of Salem Turnpike died Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT. Theresa was born in Norwich on May 29, 1953 daughter of the late Harold Milton Perkins and Sophie (Paprocki) Perkins. She graduated from the Norwich Free Academy Class of 1971 and received her associate’s degree from Three Rivers Community College, Terri also attended Conn. College in New London. She last worked at Norwich Self Storage. On July 16, 1976 she was united in marriage to Rocco Iannaci in Norwich. Mr. Iannaci predeceased Theresa on November 6, 2013. Theresa enjoyed days at the beach, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and crossword puzzles. Mrs. Iannaci is survived by her children Peter Smith IV of Montville, Lisa and her husband Justin Truchsess of Norwich, Rocco Iannaci and his partner, David Ambrifi of Boston and Michael and his wife, Rebecca Iannaci of Griswold, a step-daughter, Rena and her husband Leon Barnowski of Bozrah, three grandchildren, Kellan Truchsess, Isabella Iannaci and Jacob Truchsess, her siblings, Steven Perkins of Plainfield, Susan Monty of Moosup, Donna Perkins of Norwich and Mark Perkins of Norwich. Tyler Alexander Breault October 14, 1992 – December 21, 2014 Miami, FL – Tyler Alexander Breault, 22, formerly of Norwich, CT died in a motor vehicle accident, Sunday, December 21, 2014 in Miami, FL. Tyler was born in Norwich on October 14, 1992, son of Julie Weale Breault of Norwich and Robert Breault of Branford, CT. He graduated from Norwich Free Academy with highest honors and continued his education at Boston College where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Geoscience in three years. Tyler had recently moved to Miami Beach, FL with his longtime girlfriend, Liz Murphy of Milton, MA, where he was working as an Account Executive with Live Answer Company. Tyler was incredibly passionate about the environment and all the opportunities and adventures life had to offer. He traveled to numerous parts of the world, including South Africa and Central America, where he did research related to environmental studies and marine biology. Tyler loved everything about the ocean and the beach, including surfing, paddleboarding, and scuba diving. He was an avid sports fan and baseball player. In his short time with us, Tyler lived and loved more completely than some do in an entire lifetime. In addition to his beloved mother, father and girlfriend, Tyler is survived by his paternal grandfather, Robert Breault of Osterville, MA, his aunts and uncles, Pattie and David Ottmann of Maine, Jimmy Weale of Maryland and Ann Weale of Maryland, his cousins, Kelsey Hughes, Justin Ottmann, Jimmy Weale, and Kerri Weale, and his cherished dogs, Buddy and Bodie. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Madeline and James Weale, and his paternal grandmother, Marilyn Breault. The funeral service will be Monday, December 29, 2014 at 2:30 pm at the Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home, 82 Cliff St., Norwich, CT. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Agnes E. LePage 1934-2015 Preston, CT – Agnes Elizabeth (Patterson) LePage, 80 of Route 2A died peacefully on Sunday February 1, 2015 in Greentree Manor Nursing Home in Waterford. She was the loving wife of the late Francis Randolph LePage. Born in Preston in the home she lived in most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Frank Everette and Rita Proctor (Eccleston) Patterson. Agnes worked in the advertising department for the Thermos Company. Agnes was a vivacious person who always made the best of life. She filled the world around her with laughter and her loss will be keenly felt by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter Michelle Monty and her husband Karl of Preston; her grandson Adam MacDougall of Norwich; her great grandson Adam Michael MacDougall of Ocala, FL and her niece, Paulette Stanard of Westerly, RI. Kathleen Congdon – February 11, 1965 – February 9, 2015 – Norwich. Kathleen Elizabeth Congdon, 49, of Norwich, CT and formerly of Costa Mesa, CA, died peacefully on February 9, 2015 at The William W. Backus Hospital after a long illness. Kathleen was born on February 11, 1965 in Norwich, the daughter of Susan (FitzGerald) Congdon of Norwich and the late Henry A. Congdon. Kathleen was a loving daughter and sister, a kind and dedicated teacher, devoted aunt and loyal friend. She had a twinkle in her eye and an outlook on life that allowed her to remain forever young at heart. Kathleen attended St. Patrick Cathedral School and graduated from The Norwich Free Academy, class of 1983, Marymount College (Tarrytown, NY campus) and Fordham University. Kathleen taught kindergarten, first and second grade. She dedicated her teaching career to underserved student populations at Title I schools including P.S. 306 in New York, Wequonnoc Elementary School in Norwich and Janie P. Abbott Elementary School in Lynwood, California. In addition to her teaching career, Kathleen worked at Pottery Barn in Costa Mesa for many years. Kathleen cherished her Abbott Elementary School and Pottery Barn colleagues who provided tremendous support throughout her illness. Kathleen loved making beautiful angel Christmas tree toppers and ornaments for her extended family and friends, planning her family’s annual Christmas Eve gathering, and spoiling her beloved nephew. Although Kathleen lived in California for a number of years and intended to remain there, she never wavered in her allegiance to the Patriots and Red Sox, and always looked forward to visiting with family and friends during her trips to Norwich. Kathleen is survived by her mother, Susan F. Congdon, of Norwich, her sister, Kerry Congdon DeMott, her brother-in-law Dennis and her nephew Jason, of Elmhurst, Illinois. Kathleen was predeceased by her father Henry and sister Elizabeth. Kathleen is the niece of John and Mary Carroll FitzGerald, Charles J. and Patricia Kelly, and Pasqualina, “Pat”, and the late David FitzGerald, all of Norwich. Kathleen will be sadly missed by her aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. Kathleen’s family is grateful for the loving care provided by her dear friends Jessica Aguirre, Susan Blinderman, Amy Haggard, Mary Manning and Sharon May as well as spiritual support from Sister Rita and Monsignor Tony. The family also wishes to recognize the compassionate care provided by the Backus Hospital Oncology Unit, Center for Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, Eastern Connecticut Hematology Oncology, and Kaiser Permanente at Sand Canyon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick, 213 Broadway, Norwich with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends and relatives will gather for calling hour on February 13, 2015 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home, 82 Cliff Street, Norwich. Blanche Y. Stanton 1922-2015 Norwich, CT. – Blanche Yvette Stanton, 92, of Hamilton Ave. died peacefully at home on Sunday February 8, 2015. She was the wife of the late Allan Stanton. Born in Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of the late Clarence & Mary Jane (Crossford) St. Jean. Blanche was a waitress for several area restaurants and co-owner of Uneeda Cleaner dry cleaners. She was a member of the Rose County Senior Center, the UConn Fireside Extension Group, and the Backus Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. Blanche is survived by her son, Allan D. Stanton of Preston; her daughter Patricia Salla of Norwich; her brother Robert Crawford of R.I.; her sister, Catherine Guillmette of Coventry, RI; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Blanche had a few special people in her life, one being her granddaughter, Barbara Kiertianis of Plainfield; others include Louise Cardin, and Rose Benoit of Norwich. She is predeceased by her sisters, Rita DePinto and Claire Briggs. Elaine G. Ramos 1945 – 2015 Norwich-Elaine (Gonsalves) Ramos, 69, beloved wife of the late Donald Ramos, of Sunnyside Ave. died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at home. Born in Norwich she was the daughter of the late Julius and Lydia (Perry) Gonsalves. Elaine was united in marriage to the late Donald Ramos on April 30, 1966, in St. Patrick Cathedral. Mrs. Ramos was employed as a Mental Health Worker at the Norwich State Hospital for over 20 years until it’s closing and then went to work for Connecticut Valley. She was a volunteer at the Child and Family Agency and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Elaine is survived by her two sons Christopher D. Ramos of NC and Joshua A, Ramos of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters Andrea L. Ogu and her husband Polycarp and Sarah R. Perez and her husband Luis both of Norwich; a brother Alfred “Fred” Gonsalves of Preston and two sisters Judith Gomes of Norwich and Jean Tugwell of Alvarado, TX; four grandchildren Breanna Ramos, Armani Simmons, Xavier Ogu, and Lucia Perez and a great grandchild Jahmai Mainor. She was predeceased by a daughter Nicole G. Ramos. A Celebration of Elaine’s life will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Preston VFW Hall, 28 Spicer Rd., Preston, CT, beginning at 4:00PM.
